Egypt Offers Free Train Seats for Cancer Patients

The Ministry of Transport has announced that four seats in all standard and air-conditioned trains would be allocated to cancer patients and their companions.

Cancer patient would be given specific and annual identity ‘cards’ by the Railway Authority ; the cards could be used any time during the booking of a train ticket.

The Assistant Minister of Transport Amr Shaat also reported that 10 additional trains, which were functioning solely on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, would cease to work  on June 26.

According to Egypt Independent, the decision was issued in a press statement on Monday, and Shaat stated that to allocate special seats for cancer patients was the state’s duty.

Last year, Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi signed an agreement with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to construct a new electric train which would link New Cairo and the 10th of Ramadan city with the new administrative capital. The construction of the train is due to end in 2020.
