Renowned Romanian pan-flutist Gheorghe Zamfir is due to hold a charity concert in Cairo on Friday in support of cancer patients, according to the organisers of the concert.
“Music against Cancer” is the title of the concert which is due to be attended by a host of celebrities and public figures as well as more than 75 experts in the treatment of cancer, from all over the world.
The revenue from the charity concert will be earmarked for the non-profit organisation Breast-Gynecological International Cancer Society (BGICS), in an effort to offer support to cancer patients, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of checking the disease which is spreading fast across the world.
The concert is also part of the 10th round of the Breast, Gynecological and Immunooncology International Cancer Conference which will be held on January 19-20.
“Music undoubtedly has a role to play in lifting the morale of cancer patients and that is why we have given the slogan “’Music against Cancer” to this year’s conference,” said Hisham el-Ghazaly, professor of oncology at Ain Shams University and head of the BGICS, according to a BGICS statement.
According to the statement, Zamfir said that he was happy to hold a charity concert in Egypt in support of cancer patients. Zamfir had held a concert in Egypt in 2009 at the Opera House in Cairo and Alexandria.
