Egypt’s military handball team qualified for the handball finals at the Military World Games in South Korea, after it beat the Lithuanian team in the semi-finals.
The swimming team also landed second place in the 100-meter freestyle competition, bringing the total number of medals for the Egyptian military team to three, according to a statement on the Egyptian Army Spokesman’s Facebook page.
Egypt will also be competing with the South Korean team for third and fourth place in soccer after Egypt lost against Brazil in the semi-finals.
During the last summer edition of the Military World Games in 2011, Egypt only earned one medal.
This year’s event began on October 2 and will continue until October 11.
The Military World Games take place on a quadrennial basis and are organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). Sporting events include boxing, handball, judo, volleyball and sailing.
The first event took place in Rome in 1995 and the CISM recently introduced a winter edition, the first of which took place in Italy’s Aosta Valley in 2010.
