Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi welcomed United States President Joe Biden in Sharm El Sheikh on Friday 11 November, with the two leaders holding one-on-one talks on the sidelines of COP27. In remarks to the press ahead of their meeting, Biden thanked Egypt for hosting COP27, adding that it was only natural for Egypt to host it given the country is known as the “mother of the world”. During their meeting, Sisi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening coordination and consultation between Cairo and Washington DC, adding that a strong relationship is important to ensure stability and security in the Middle East. Sisi also emphasized the importance of tackling climate change, stressing Egypt’s commitment to supporting global efforts for climate action. Meanwhile, Biden congratulated Sisi on hosting COP27 and expressed “the United States’ solidarity with Egypt in the face of the global economic and food security challenges caused by Russia’s war on Ukraine”.
