After seven years, our writing competition is back — and it’s better than ever! We’re excited to announce our partnership with FairTrade Egypt for the launch of “Timeless Tales: Egypt’s Cultural Heritage Writing Competition.”
We’re looking for compelling first-person narratives and personal encounters that shine a light on Egypt’s rich cultural heritage. Whether it’s through the lens of Ancient Egypt, Coptic, Islamic, Jewish traditions, or expressions of tangible and intangible heritage — including music, performances, arts, literature, museums, sites, and crafts — we want your story.
Requirements
- Submission must be in English
- Not previously published elsewhere, online or offline
- First person narratives and encounters
- Accompanied by a minimum of 3 original landscape photos or illustrations, with rights of publishing
- Themes: ancient, coptic, islamic, jewish, tangible, intangible, music, performances, arts, literature, museums, sites, crafts
- 800 to 1000 words maximum
- Residents living in Egypt
- Please include “Timeless Tales” and your name in the email subject line
Prizes
The top three winners will receive vouchers from FairTrade Egypt, redeemable for a stunning selection of handcrafted products — from embroidered shawls and intricate jewelry to beautifully made pots and vases. Each item reflects FairTrade Egypt’s commitment to ethical, eco-conscious craftsmanship and its strong partnerships with talented Egyptian artisans. You can find them also on Facebook and Instagram.
First place: EGP 4,000 voucher
Second place: EGP 2,500 voucher
Third place: EGP 1,500 voucher
Additionally, the top 10 entries will be published on Egyptian Streets, giving writers a chance to share their voices and stories with a wide audience.
