A new report published by the BBC suggests that Egypt’s capital of Cairo is most likely to run out of water due to the untreated agricultural and residential waste. The report added that River Nile – the source of 97 percent of Egypt’s supply of fresh water– is struggling in modern times. The UN further estimates that Egypt is set to face a critical shortage of water by 2025. “World Health Organization figures show that Egypt ranks high among lower-middle-income countries in terms of the number of deaths related to water pollution,” the report said. Cairo is among 11 other cities that are forecasted to face water shortage including; Jakarta, São Paulo, Beijing, Moscow, and Istanbul. In March 2015, the former Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Hossam Moghazi announced that Egypt has entered the era of water poverty. Egypt generally faces a water shortage problem, Egypt’s current minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aaty previously stated. Aide Of Former Presidential Hopeful Sami Anan Arrested
Egyptian security forces have arrested the former head of Egypt’s Central Auditing Organization (CAO) Hisham Geneina on Tuesday, media outlets reported citing Geneina’s lawyer Ali Taha. Besides being the former head of CAO, Geneina also was set to be the vice president of former presidential hopeful and ex-general Sami Anan. The arrest came a few hours after the Armed Forces had released a statement in response to press statements made by Geneina to the HuffPost Arabic. Geneina revealed in his press statements that Anan is in possession of documents against the military leaders and the current regime, further threatening that these documents will be released if Anan got assassinated during his imprisonment. In response, the military said that Geneina’s statements aim at stirring suspicions against the state and its institutions, particularly in a time when the Armed Forces is combating terrorism in North Sinai. The statement further stressed that it will use all its constitutional and legal rights to take the necessary procedures against Geneina and Anan.
