Sarah Khalifa was known to Egyptian television audiences as a media personality and television host. Her career placed her in front of the camera, including in programmes dealing with crime and criminal cases. Today, she was sentenced to death after being convicted of drug trafficking.
In 2025, Khalifa’s own name became associated with a major criminal investigation.
Her case began in April 2025, when Egyptian authorities arrested her in Cairo as part of an investigation into what prosecutors described as an organised criminal network involved in the manufacture and trafficking of synthetic drugs.
According to the prosecution, Khalifa and other defendants were involved in importing raw materials that could be used to manufacture synthetic narcotics. Investigators alleged that these materials were intended for the production and subsequent trafficking of drugs inside Egypt.
The investigation eventually led to 28 defendants being referred to trial.
The prosecution presented a substantial body of evidence to the court. This included testimony from 20 witnesses, as well as technical and digital evidence, including messages, photographs, and videos that prosecutors said documented the defendants’ alleged activities.
The charges went beyond drug-related offences. Prosecutors also accused members of the alleged criminal organisation of possessing firearms and ammunition without the required licences.
Khalifa and 11 other defendants were sentenced to death after being convicted of forming an organised criminal gang involved in importing materials used to manufacture synthetic drugs for trafficking.
The defendants were also convicted of possessing firearms and ammunition without licences.
The court imposed different sentences on the remaining defendants. Nine received life sentences, while seven were acquitted.
