El-Sisi Arrives in India for 18th BRICS Summit

September 11, 2026

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Friday, 11 September, to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, according to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency.

The summit, hosted by India on 12 and 13 September, will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries to discuss economic cooperation and a range of regional and international issues.

Egypt’s participation marks its third consecutive BRICS summit since joining the bloc in January 2024.

El-Sisi is scheduled to deliver Egypt’s address during the closed session of BRICS leaders on 12 September, before speaking at the expanded session on 13 September alongside member states and partner countries.

He is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with BRICS leaders and senior officials from international organizations on the sidelines of the summit.

BRICS is an international grouping of emerging economies that was originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Egypt officially became a member in January 2024, alongside several other countries that joined the expanded bloc.

The group aims to strengthen economic and development cooperation among its members and increase coordination on international issues, with Egypt viewing its membership as an opportunity to expand trade, investment, and access to new markets.

For Egypt, BRICS also provides a platform to strengthen cooperation with countries across the Global South and broaden its international economic partnerships.
