Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly led Egypt’s delegation at the opening of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, 22 September.
Speaking at the Leaders’ Meeting on “Partnership for Multilateral Action, Security and Peace,” Madbouly emphasized the need to redirect the capacities of the international financial system toward greater fairness and to ensure it more accurately reflects the interests and needs of the Global South.
He also stressed that the multilateral international system must remain at the center of these efforts, highlighting the role of the United Nations in providing assistance to help achieve shared global goals.
Madbouly then stressed Egypt’s commitment to multilateralism and to strengthening international cooperation.
Egypt’s delegation to the UNGA meetings also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Madbouly also participated on Tuesday in a summit hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump, bringing together leaders and senior officials from across the Middle East.
The Egyptian prime minister attended alongside representatives from several Arab and Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Türkiye.
Discussions focused on Middle East developments and on ways to reduce escalating tensions through political and diplomatic measures, with participants stressing that this approach serves shared interests and aligns with the aspirations of the region’s peoples for peace, development and prosperity.
The summit also voiced appreciation for Trump’s efforts to advance peace in the region and reviewed the implementation of his plan for the Gaza Strip, particularly its second phase.
The talks further addressed the need to create a serious political pathway toward a just and permanent settlement of the Palestinian cause based on international legitimacy resolutions.
