Amr Gamal is set to become Egypt’s first footballer to join a South African league after Al Ahly made an agreement with Johannesburg’s Bidvest Wits for a loan deal beginning next week.
The striker, 26, played for Al Ahly’s adult league since 2013; he was a member of the club’s youth division prior to his senior career.
He is due to join the South African Premier Division champions, based in Johannesburg, on a loan arrangement for the duration of a year.
Al Ahly’s spokesmen confirmed the deal on their website after the club’s coach, Hossam El-Badry, gave his final approval.
Prior to traveling to South Africa, Gamal will play with Al Ahly through the Egypt Cup final scheduled for Tuesday.
Throughout Gamal’s 23 appearances playing for the Egyptian club this season, he scored six goals and assisted another three.
Bidvest Wits, nicknamed the Clever Boys, claimed their first title last May, and have been eyeing the African Championship under head coach Gavin Hunt.
