Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman won Best Female Athlete from Africa 2017 at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Awards on Thursday, in Prague, Czech Republic.
The event was organized to recognize the best male and female athletes from five continents and to celebrate their achievements in sports during the year.
“To be presented with this award in the company of so many inspiring people is a memory that will stay with me forever. 2017 has been a great year for me, especially the historic moment of winning Egypt’s first ever medal at the FINA World Championships,” said Farida according to the press release.
“… I am determined to continue to work hard, improve, and become an inspiration for future athletes,” she added
Nicknamed as the golden fish, the Egyptian champion won Egypt’s first medal at the FINA World Aquatics Championships.
This triumph came after she won bronze in the 50m butterfly’s race at the 2017’s FINA World Aquatics Championship, which took place in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.
