Egypt’s President Sisi visits victims of brutal sexual assault

In a first for Egypt’s fight against sexual assault and harassment, Egypt’s newly elected President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi visited the victim of the brutal sexual assault captured on video in Tahrir Square.

The video, aired by Egypt’s state television, shows President Sisi visiting a Military hospital where the victim is being treated.

Upon entering the room, President Sisi hands the victim a bouquet of flowers and immediately apologizes for the incident.

“We are sorry. We are not good,” says President Sisi apologetically. “I am apologizing to every Egyptian woman.”

Remove the video

“The video…on YouTube…being aired every day…my daughter is watching it,” says the female victim, asking President Sisi to move to remove the horrific video that has stirred outrage across the world.

Following the victim’s requests, President Sisi affirms that no longer will even a single case of sexual assault be acceptable.

“I will not call the Minister of Interior or the Minister of Justice. I will call every soldier in Egypt. Whether from the police services or the military and…wherever they are in the country,” affirms the President. “I am talking to you [the soldiers]. I am talking to all young officers. I am telling you that this will never happen or continue in Egypt.”

“I am speaking to the judiciary,” continues the President. “Our own flesh is being assaulted on the streets and that is unacceptable. Even if it is only one case, it is unacceptable.”

President Sisi then moves on to address the media.

“I am speaking to the media, and tell them that there is a shared responsibility. We have spoken before that there is responsibility on us all: the media, the police and the judiciary,” adds the President.

“Every man who has honour and is decent, shame on you to leave this incident to occur, even if it was a single case in all of Egypt,” says the President. “We as a nation will not allow this to happen ever again.”

“There will be strict procedures and strict implementation of the law. I am here to tell you, and every Egyptian woman, I am sorry. I am apologizing to all of you.”
