Giant Mo Salah Mural Painted in NYC Times Square

June 7, 2018

Mohamed Salah, often dubbed as the Egyptian King, has not only won the hearts of Egyptians but the Liverpool-star has also attracted the attention of many. As such, his face has become well-known not just through media but also in the streets of Cairo, Liverpool and now, New York.

Brandan “Bmike” odums, a visual arts artist from New Orleans, USA, has created a large art tribute to the Egyptian football star on the side of a building overlooking Times Square.

The mural was supposedly inspired by ”Egyptian patterns and colours ” with Bmike stating that Salah’s hair had captured his attention the most; he included iconic shots of Salah playing football amidst the locks of hair and beard.

A video depicting the painting process, and Mo Salah’s excitment over the mural, has also been widely shared online.

Graffiti and art featuring Salah is only one of the few mediums fans have taken to express their admiration of Salah. In Egypt, various merchandise pays homage to the Egyptian star such as Salah-shaped Ramadan lanterns, mugs on which his face is printed, bags, and figurines have been popular especially among youth who ‘look up’ to Salah as a role model.
