Egypt closed its participation in the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 in Italy with a fifth place finish overall and first place among Arab countries.

By the end of the last day’s competitions, the Egyptian delegation had accumulated 58 medals in total: 23 gold, 16 silver, and 19 bronze.

The medal count represented a notable improvement compared with Egypt’s previous Mediterranean Games appearance in Oran in 2022, when Egypt collected 51 medals (13 gold, 15 silver, and 23 bronze) and finished sixth overall.

Among the highlights of Taranto 2026, the Egyptian team delivered its biggest single sport contribution in fins swimming, winning 12 medals across the competition: four gold, four silver, and four bronze.

In the gold-medal races, Tarek Hassan triumphed in the 100m monofin event and the 50m underwater race, while Maho Ehab secured gold in the 400m monofin. Ahmad Hisham Radwan also earned a gold medal in the 200m double fins event.

Weightlifting then contributed as Egypt collected 10 medals overall (7 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze).

Sara Samir won gold in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the 77 kg category, and Abd al-Rahman Younes captured gold in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the 85 kg category.

Rofida Fathy added gold in the clean and jerk and another gold, along with silver in the snatch, in the 69 kg class. Nour al-Din Zaki won gold in the snatch and silver in the clean and jerk in the 65 kg category. Karim Kahla secured gold in the clean and jerk and bronze in the snatch in the 95 kg weight class.

Across other sports, Egypt continued to add medals in both individual and team events. In table tennis, Hana Goda won gold in the women’s singles final, defeating Monaco’s Xiaoxin Yang 4–1 to claim the top spot. She also captured a silver medal in the mixed doubles, competing with her teammate Omar Assar from the men’s national team.

In karate, Taha Tariq Mahmoud won the gold medal in the +84 kg category after a dramatic 4–3 victory over Croatia’s champion, overturning a 3–1 deficit with a late surge of three decisive punches in the final eight seconds to complete the comeback and seal the win.

Egypt also participated across a wide range of sports from archery to athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, canoe/kayak, equestrian, fencing, short swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, paddle, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and fins swimming.
