French Investigators Claim Cockpit Fire Caused MS804 EgyptAir Crash

France’s BEA air accident investigation agency claimed that the fatal 2016 Paris-Cairo EgyptAir flight crash was most likely caused by a cockpit fire, according to Reuters. “The BEA considers that the most likely hypothesis is that a fire broke out in the cockpit while the aeroplane was flying at its cruise altitude and that the fire spread rapidly resulting in the loss of control of the aeroplane,” the statement, issued on Friday, said. The statement also stressed that the Egyptian authorities have yet to publish their final report nor have they followed the BEA’s suggestion on further work on the retrieved debris and recorded data. In May 2018, the BEA met with the Egyptian Attorney General who has maintained that Egypt’s position: the crash being the result of a malicious act which was caused following the discovery of explosives on human remains. The investigation remains within the sole jurisdiction of the judicial authorities. EgyptAir Flight MS804 vanished at 2:30AM Cairo time on May 19, moments after entering Egyptian airspace. The flight from Paris to Cairo, which was discovered to have crashed, was carrying 56 passengers and 10 crew members who were all killed….
