Henry Beston once said, “If there is one thing clear about the centuries dominated by the factory and the wheel, it is that although the machine can make everything from a spoon to a landing-craft, a natural joy in earthly living is something it never has and never will be able to manufacture.” This notion is one that isn’t foreign to many modern day parents, such as Sara Seif and Eman Badawi.
Frustrated by how attached their five-year-old children are to mobile devices, from phones to tablets, both Badawi and Seif saw the necessity of providing their children with a safe outdoors environment to exercise both their muscles and their curious inquisitive brains through play. That’s why they chose Family Park in New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement to host their biweekly family day out, Fel Park.
Set to take place fortnightly, Fel Park’s ‘The Market’ is the perfect chance for kids to run free and enjoy a day in the sun, while the parents unwind in a chill atmosphere filled with nothing but warm sun, music, and good company.
Cairo Sitters, a babysitting company, will also be in charge of supervising the children to make sure that both parents and kids have a proper laid back day. “Even when I take Omar to any playground area, I barely enjoy my time because I always have to keep an eye on him amid the crowds,” expressed Badawi.
Spanning from 10 am till 5 pm, Family Park will be vibrant with all activities fun for both adults and kids. In addition to yoga sessions, treasure hunts, dodge ball, and other outdoorsy activities, Abo Wel Shabab will be entertaining the attendees with their fun tunes. For arts and crafts lovers, they can enjoy tie-dye sessions, origami and pottery workshops, as well as displayed artwork ranging from reclaimed wood furniture and hand crafted wood work by Gazwareen, home accessories, jewellery and much more.
To add a little sprinkle of both fun and education to the family day out, Family Park has a mini zoo, the Safari Plaza.
And if you have often been through the situation where you had to alarmingly stare at your child for exploring everything on display by touching it, both your kid and yourself will certainly enjoy the ‘sensorial museum’ which caters after your child’s kinaesthetic approach to learning more about the world.
If you’re eager to attend ‘The Market’, you should bear in mind that the park rules ban bringing in food from outside the park, guaranteeing the presence of food vendors that satisfy many tastes. “We try as much as possible to provide The Market’s attendees with food that is home made and farthest from processed,” remarked Badawi.
‘The Market’ follows Fel Park’s successful day out, ‘Breakfast with Santa’ which took place in late December 2014. “’Breakfast with Santa’ saw the presence of 600 people, a number we hope to triple to 2000 attendees during ‘The Market’,” said Badawi.
Being an outdoors lover myself, I cherish every bit of warm sunshine, especially in the presence of good music, and maybe a book or friends and family. If you share the same enthusiasm, then you should mark your calendar for ‘The Market’, taking place next Friday, March 27.
“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin,” said William Shakespeare, and to that, we say “Amen!”
