Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said died on Friday night aged 79, announced Oman's state media. Sultan Qaboos, the Arab world's longest-serving leader, had recently returned to Oman after undergoing treatment in Belgium. Sultan Qaboos came to power at the age of 29 in 1970 following a bloodless coup which saw him depose his father Said bin Taimur.
