Final Verdict: Egypt’s Court Upholds Death Sentence for New Cairo Serial Killer

Egypt’s Court of Cassation has upheld the death sentence of Karim Selim, known in local media as the “New Cairo Serial Killer,” in a horrific case involving the murder of three women and the disposal of their bodies in desert areas on the outskirts of Cairo. The court’s ruling is final and not subject to appeal, confirming earlier verdicts issued by lower courts, state media reported. Selim was convicted on charges including premeditated murder, human trafficking, possession of narcotics, and desecration of bodies. The court said its decision was based on what it described as established material and moral evidence in the case. The defendant’s lawyers had sought to overturn the ruling, arguing that he suffered from mental instability and requesting that he be assessed by a specialized medical committee. The defense also challenged the validity of initial confessions, claiming they were made under psychological pressure.
