Three Dead, 25 Injured as Bus Hits Truck on Egypt’s Red Sea Highway

October 30, 2026

Three people, including a bus driver, were killed and 25 others were injured on Friday, 30 October, when a passenger bus collided with a heavy truck loaded with sand on the road between Hurghada and Ras Gharib, officials said.

The crash occurred about 6 miles past the Jabal al-Zeit area, in the direction of Ras Gharib, in Red Sea Governorate. Other reports placed the site at the 95th kilometer marker of the road. Local news reports said the bus struck the truck from behind, partly blocking traffic. Photographs from the scene, however, showed the front of the bus badly crushed.

Five of the injured were foreign nationals: a French citizen, an Italian and three Russians, according to Egyptian news outlets. Dozens of ambulances were dispatched, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, with injuries ranging from moderate to critical, including fractures and bruises. The Red Sea Governorate’s health undersecretary, Ismail al-Arabi, visited the injured at Ras Gharib Central Hospital, and some of the most serious cases were transferred to Hurghada General Hospital.

Security and traffic officials cleared the wreckage and restored the flow of traffic. Prosecutors opened an investigation to determine the cause and whether criminal negligence or traffic violations were involved. According to authorities, they would examine both vehicles and take statements from the injured and witnesses.
