Designers, painters and authors all hail. Often belittled in society and have no place to earn for what they create, however things might soon change for artists. A platform where artists in Egypt of different sorts can showcase and sell their products is on its way.
Skware One is a platform that is launching soon in Egypt. It is an online marketplace for artists and designers who aim to shed lights on the products made by local designers that have great potential.
Skware One Founder Haidy Zakaria says the art scene in Egypt needs exposure more than anything. “It needs people to notice. Art is not just about canvases and surrealist sculptures, it can be anything from a statement piece of jewellery to a well-designed dress,” she said.
The online platform aims at letting people know that they have an outlet to sell their products, and that people could find the unique things they have been looking for on the platform. Skware One will feature clothes, jewellery, canvases, books and notebooks, with the plan to expand to many different categories in the near future.
Zakaria got the idea to establish Skware One after seeing so many great and talented artists all over Egypt that were not getting enough traction because their products were lost in the noise.
“I think that we have a lot of products that are worthy of international attention but the fact that most of the stuff is sold on Facebook pages takes away from the uniqueness,” she said.
Zakaria is starting with a few designers, as well as painters, and an author.
After the launch, the website will be available for everyone to start their store or their “corner” and start selling.
“As long as creativity is put into the process, it should be considered art and it should be noticed,” concluded Zakaria.
