The death toll of the attack on a mosque in North Sinai on November 24 has risen to 311 after a number of the wounded succumbed to their injuries.
Quoting unnamed sources at the North Sinai Health Directorate, private newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reports that the latest victim to die from the injuries he sustained in the attack was a man by the name of Abdel Rahman Moussa, who had received treatment at the al-Arish General Hospital.
A list containing the names of the dead was obtained and published by privately-owned Youm7 newspaper.
Following the recent deaths, the number of injured currently stands at 122, most of whom are still being treated at hospitals mainly in Cairo and Ismailia.
Gun-bearing militants stormed the al-Rawda mosque in the Bir al-Abd village west of al-Arish during Friday prayers on November 24, detonating an explosive device while opening fire on worshipers.
Egypt’s army and police forces carried out air strikes and ground operations in surrounding areas the same evening, targeting militants claimed to have been involved in the attack.
The incident, the deadliest in Egypt’s recent history, is the latest attack by North Sinai-based militant groups which have been engaged in a low-level war with Egypt’s army and police in recent years.
Although there has been no claim of responsibility for the terrorist attack, village residents say that they had received threats from the Islamic State-linked Wilayat Sinai group just a week prior to the incident.
