One of Egypt’s least known initiatives, Together to Save a Human, was just rewarded Dh 1 million by Arab Hope Makers for the humanitarian assistance they’ve been providing to Cairo’s homeless for the last two years. The ceremony, which took place on Monday in Dubai highlighted the numerous charitable initiatives across the Middle East that were improving the lives of many in need. Mahmoud Wahid, aged 35 and founder of Together to Save a Human, stood alongside Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai and claimed his prize. Wahid’s initiative started in 2016 when he spotted a man lying in the streets with gangrene ravaging his hand. He was able to provide medical assistance to the man but was apprehensive of how the man would later live his life. Accordingly, with friends, he decided to set up Egypt’s first home for homeless elderly and adults. They have successfully helped over 70 cases of homeless men and women with 100 more cases being reviewed on their waiting list.
