Children ‘sexually abused’ in Egypt orphanage

CAIRO: Justice Organization for Development and Human Rights (JODHR) issued a report of leaked documents from the Rescue Childhood Association confirming the existence of sexual assault on the children there, Youm7 reported Friday. The leaked documents revealed that there are no psychologists or social workers in the association to follow up on the children’s’ cases, even though the management of social affairs in Ain Shams supervises the association and relies on the business’ donation. All reports sent to the association manager by the children’s supervisors were ignored. According to the leaked reports scanned and available on Youm7, the reports showed four security men in the association who repeatedly assaulted and abused the children. “Three cases of homosexuality and sexual abuse were reported to the manager but no action was taken to rehabilitate the children,” the report read. The association includes a rehabilitation program for orphaned children, which is supervised by the Ministry of Education. It includes 143 children ranging at different ages; 85 children in elementary school, 33 in the primary school, and 25 in high school.
