Egypt’s Minister for International Cooperation Sahar Nasr signed on Tuesday two grant agreements with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) worth a total of EUR 69 million, the ministry announced in a press release.
The agreement also includes a EUR 1 million grant, which will be distributed between several measures and initiatives.
According to the ministry’s press release, EUR 300,000 will be spent on vocational training in collaboration with the Social Fund for Development to develop repair and maintenance skills, EUR 250,000 will be directed towards a health insurance program in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the World Bank and EUR 150,000 will be spent on energy, including technical support to energy and renewable energy efficiency projects. The final EUR 300,000 will be spent on other sectors such as urban transportation.

Priority will be given to villages and areas in the most need for funding in the fields of energy, vocational training and urban transportation.
The agreement also includes EUR 68 million that has been earmarked entirely for gas delivery to 2.4 million homes over four years.
“The grant agreement relating to gas delivery to homes has been amended according to directives of President Sisi to optimize the local component and accelerate the project’s implementation,” Nasr said.
