Shahira Amin is an Egyptian award winning journalist based in Cairo. A former broadcaster, she resigned her post as Deputy Head of Nile TV to protest censorship of her work during the 2011 mass uprising. She has since been a freelance contributor to Index on Censorship, Al Monitor and other news portals, covering developments in Egypt since the Revolution. Amin has been awarded Spain Juan Anguita Parrado Award for journalism (2012) and the Global Thinkers Award Excellence in promoting gender equity (2013)
