A Kuwaiti man who was charged with murder after killing an Egyptian citizen in Kuwait in November 2015 was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday, reported Youm7.
Kuwait’s Criminal Court sentenced the Kuwaiti national months after outrage in Egypt over the death of the Egyptian who worked at an electronics store.
Mohamed Atef, 25, was killed when the suspect ran him over multiple times with his car during a fight between a few Egyptians and Kuwaitis in Hawally, Kuwait.
Video footage of the killing sparked outrage, with some Egyptian and Kuwaiti news agencies reporting that the fight broke out after a dispute over the price of a Playstation game.
Atef’s body was returned to Cairo days later, with Egypt urging punishment for those responsible for the young man’s death. Meanwhile, Kuwait reaffirmed its strong relationship with Egypt and promised to crackdown on violators of the law.
