Five Policemen Killed in Giza Police Checkpoint Attack


Two police officers and three recruits were killed in a Friday morning attack on a police van in the town of Badrashin, Giza, stated the Ministry of Interior.

Video of the attack, captured on CCTV, shows a number of men standing around a motorcycle, waiting for the police van to pass by.

As soon as the police van drives, the men open fire on the policemen inside. The vehicle is stopped and each policeman appears to be shot dead by the attackers.

The video continues to show the attackers dragging the bodies of each policeman out of the van before setting the van on fire. According to initial reports, some weapons may have been stolen from the scene.

Some on social media have expressed their dismay at people passing by, who did not appear to stop to help the policemen or intervene.

The attack is part of a series targeting security forces across Egypt since the ouster of former Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.
