Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have qualified for the Unified Football World Cup to take place in Chicago from 17 to 22 July 2018 on the occasion of the Special Olympics Games’ 50th anniversary and under the theme of “Inclusion Revolution- Play Unified-live Unified”.
Egypt got qualified to the females’ competition at the Unified Football World Cup. This achievement came after Egypt won the Special Olympics Female Unified MENA’s Regional Cup.
This is the first time for the MENA’s region to celebrate this prestigious event. Special Olympics Female Unified MENA’s Regional Cup took place in Egypt and three countries competed: Egypt, Tunisia, and UAE.
Egypt beat the UAE 4-2, so it qualified to the women’s competition at the Unified Football World Cup.
Earlier, the UAE qualified to the men’s competition at the Unified Football World Cup.
So the MENA’s region will be participating at the Unified Football World Cup with two teams, the Egyptian women’s team, and the Emirati men’s team.
Special Olympics Unified Sports Program unifies athletes with intellectual disabilities along with athletes without intellectual disabilities to play and train together in efforts to promote social inclusion.
The program includes almost 1.4 million people worldwide.
