Egypt’s Ramadan Darwish won a gold medal, under 100 kg, at the 2017 Tashkent Grand Prix in Uzbekistan after defeating Russian Ilyasova in the final of the tournament by 1-0.
Darwish is a former world bronze medallist; he won the bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships in Rotterdam under 100 kg.
He won the Grand Prix in Qingdao, China in 2009 followed by another triumph in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2014 in addition to Budapest in 2015.
In 2016, he won gold at the Euro Open in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The five-time African Championships winner has medalled at every International Judo Federation (IJF) World Judo Tour event and is the number one seed for the -100kg category.
He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the -100 kg event and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the same event.
