The Egyptian city of Ismailia hosted the Africa Hockey Cup of Nations from October 22 to October 29 where South Africa was crowned the winner and Egypt came in second place.
The final match for the men’s competition took place between Egypt and South Africa, where the first loss to the second by 2-1.
This is the seventh time for Egypt to achieve the silver medal at this tournament; it previously obtained the second place in 1993, 2000, 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2015.
Egyptian men’s national team won the gold medal twice in 1983, 1989, and won the bronze once in 1996.
As for South Africa’s men team, this is their eighth title as they previously won in 1993, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2015.
Moving to the hockey for women in Africa, South Africa is the most advanced team followed by Ghana.
At the final match of the 2017 competition, South Africa beat Ghana by 4-0.
This is the seventh title for South Africa’s women team as they were crowned the champions before in 1994, 1998, 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2015.
In addition to the 2017 silver medal, Ghana women’s team has previously obtained the second place four times in 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2015.
