The Paris 2018 Longines Global Champions tour – Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping finished off with a fantastic win for Egypt’s Sameh El Dahan on Saturday in Paris, beating 10 world-class riders on the iconic stage of the Champs de Mars.
This outstanding performance secures El Dahan’s place at the inaugural LGCT Super Grand Prix, which will occur in Prague this December.
The Longines Global Champions Tour is divided into 17 events, with the first one having been in Mexico City and the next occurring in Chantilly. The tour brings together Olympic, World and Continental Champions show jumpers to compete for prize money and for the title of overall season Champion of Champions 2018.
“I can’t explain my emotions,” expressed El Dahan, “I’ve been living in Northern Ireland for seven years now and this is my third five–star Grand Prix victory, after Calgary (Canada) last year and La Coruna (Spain) this winter.”
“In general, I was used to good rankings around 10th place, so I did not expect to win in front of top riders,” he told Agence France-Presse.
El Dahan previously ran a successful riding academy in Cairo, before moving to Northern Ireland in 2011 to join the WKD jumping team.
Now, hopes are on the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tyron, where El Dahan plans to be part of the Egyptian team and qualify for the Tokyo games.
