Tattoos of Torture in Egypt: Taboo or Tradition?

Within the depths of old Cairo lies a small tattoo kiosk hidden in an alleyway. From grandchildren to grandmothers, Magdi has become famous locally as people come to him to cement their love and commitment for their religion with a tattoo. Created by reporter Ruth Vandewalle and cameraman Mohammed El Sharqawy for the Dutch human interest program Metropolis, this video tells the story of tattooist Magdy and traces back the roots of the century-old culture of Coptic Christians in Egypt….
