A police officer has been sentenced to a five year imprisonment for raping a female defendant inside of a police vehicle, according to Al-Ahram.

In June 2016, a case was presented to the head of the investigations department of Zagazsig police station. It was a complaint filed by a 37-year-old female defendant claiming that she was sexually assaulted and raped by a police office while being escorted to the prosecutors office.

Investigations following the complaint later confirmed the accusation as verifiable and the officer was later referred to Criminal Court.

Subsequent investigation found that the 54 year-old police office took advantage of his victim when he found himself left alone with her inside of the police truck. He began forcefully groping parts of her body and the assailant masturbated on top of the victim. The accusation was later confirmed by a forensic medical report when semen was discovered on the victim’s clothes.

This incident is only one of several similar incidents reported around Egypt. In 2014, prosecutors charged a police officer for raping a mentally disabled girl with Down’s Syndrome. The assailant was giving life sentence on May 2o15. In 2015, two police officers were reported to have kidnapped a girl off the north coast and took turns raping her. The prosecution charged both officers with sexual assault.
