Egyptian label Three Fifty Nine has been selected to show its spring/summer 2019 collection at London Fashion Week in September, after winning top honors at the Fashion Showcase contest organised by Dubai Design and Fashion Council.
As a relatively new label launched in 2015, Three Fifty Nine has already been shown at Fashion Forward Dubai and will also take part in New York Fashion Week next spring, pushing Egypt further in the international fashion scene.
The label’s founder, Marwa Sayed, expressed her excitement with the news, as she said, “I’m thrilled to have been selected as the winner of DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Scout London. It’s an incredible platform for emerging designers to present their collections at London Fashion Week and I am overjoyed to be among the designers showcasing the renowned event…it’s a dream come true.”
The motto behind the brand, as Marwa Sayed explains, is that “perfection is overrated”, as the name Three Fifty Nine symbolizes that not being a complete 360 degrees circle is still sufficient.
Created by Egyptian artist Hani Mahfouz, the artwork is the backbone of the collections, matched with the clever designs of Marwa Sayed.
In 2016, five Egyptian designers were selected to participate in the International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week, which marked the first time Egypt to be included in the event.
Yet the route to achieving this success is often tiresome and extremely difficult, as many of these designers expressed how they lacked support and infrastructure; some are not even legally registered until later on.
This lack of basic support and establishment has left many Egyptian designers to miss out on important opportunities, which can eventually discourage them and weaken the local fashion scene.
