Liverpool FC officially announced Thursday that it has completed a £39 million, five-year signing of Egyptian football player Mohamed Salah.
The player, who represents Egypt nationally, is due to wear Liverpool’s number 11 jersey in Anfield next season.
The English football club has paid over £4 million pounds more for Salah than their previous most expensive player, Andy Carroll, for £35 million. The fee could still rise to £43.9 million with the additional of certain clauses.
During an interview with Liverpoolfc.com, Salah stated: “I’m very excited to be here. I’m very happy. I will give 100% and give everything for the club. I really want to win something for this club.
“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100% to win something. Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”
Football History
Liverpool targeted the now-former Roma player since 2014, when he instead opted to join Chelsea prior to an underwhelming performance in the English Premier League.
However, after an impressive 29 goals throughout 65 appearances in the Serie A for Roma, Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, insisted that the winger could benefit the team with his quick pace, which he describes as “incredible”.
He expressed his belief that Salah could add a level of depth to Liverpool, who hope to compete in the Champions League this season.
Klopp commented on his new player: “Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential – this is a really exciting signing for us. He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country.
“His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad. His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area.
“Most important, though, for us, is that he is hungry, willing and eager to be even better and improve further. He believes in what we are trying to do here at Liverpool and is extremely keen to be part of it.
“He is very excited about performing for our wonderful supporters. He is an ambitious player who wants to win and win at the highest level; he knows he can fulfil those ambitions with Liverpool.”
“I welcome him and his family into our Liverpool family.”
Salah will become an official Liverpool player during the transfer window which opens in the beginning of July.
