Egypt is now ranked 65th in the world after football’s governing body FIFA released the latest rankings on Thursday.

After losing all of its matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Uruguay, Russia, and Saudi Arabia at the knockout stage, the Pharaohs moved down from  45th spot to 65th spot under the new calculations FIFA has put in place.

The rankings have designated Russia’s team as the best mover while Egypt took worst. As it stands, the team’s current standing is at all-time low.

France has knocked Germany from its perch to claim the No.1 spot, whilst Belgium is ranked second. Brazil is just ahead of Croatia in third.

In June, FIFA announced that the ranking system would be updated; the calculation method of the team’s ranking would be closely modeled after the Elo rating system.

As such, the new weighting does not place large emphasis on home or away games., namely friendly games played outside the international calendar. Moreover,  knockouut stages at confederation Cup, leagues and the World Cup are to carry greater weight

Earlier this month, after playing in the field for over 22 years, Egypt’s goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary announced his retirement from international football.

Last July, El-Hadry broke the record at the FIFA World Cup by being the oldest player to ever participate in the tournament. Nationally, El-Hadry has played for two of the country’s most renowned teams Zamalek SC and Al Ahly SC.
